I have a alloy deck lid (engine cover-with built in headrest) that fits Early 50s Porsche 550 spyder, previous owner says car VINs indicated it was on a badly wreaked 1956 Porsche “LeMans coupe ” . Sometime 1989-91 the wreaked Porsche was dropped off at Tillack, possibly for repairs or sale.
Do you have any records or history on this Porsche.
I am interested in selling the alloy deck lid ! I can text photos, it is in good condition, would also make a cool display.

yo, billy—i had 3 of those rides:a champagne gold four door, with a 3 -on-the-tree, a red 2 door hardtop, and a red 4 door station wagon with curtains, big pillows & shag carpet in the back…it was fantastic @ the drive-in. (my dad called it “the freak wagon.”)
while not nearly as cool as yours, i enjoyed those rides. they were an integral part of my coming of age. not to mention, you can’t kill a small block chevy–it’ll die when it’s ready.

How rare is my car.because someone told me that its just a 911s built 12/75 original second owner.my title says porche carrera targa but somebody said the 2 had to be a 4 so its not either a targa nor carrera.but when i looked up vin the only exception was the carrera targa 1975 numbers didnt have to match.what does that mean.cuz know im confused with the 930 and m1 something.some others called ut.or is it called the widowmaker.please help.thank you.

Used to live in Ocala until 10 years ago and had an annual pass which allowed me to go there often. I saw cars that I’d only ever seen in the ’60’s in “Hot Rod and Car Craft” magazines The variety and number of historic cars there is mindboggling. In the other building were more ’40 Fords than I could imagine and such as a Trabant ( a cheap piece of junk) and Model Ts plus much else. Would highly recommend that one and all go there.

I personably believe that the 68 Dodge
Charger RT 440 Magnum was the best of the Chargers! I loved the movie Bullet! The Charger could chew up Ford! I guess I was a little prejudice because I owned the 68 and loved it! It was scary powerful!

Hello & thanks for the shot of my 59 Apache #projectfired (the patina sled in the Cub booth). Contrary to your comment suggesting its rust free, it actually burnt down in the 2018 NorCal Paradise Fire & there is zero paint on my sled. The metal was treated, cured & then we shot matte clear on the body. Devious Customs in Riverside built it from the ground up on a Roadster Shop Spec Chassis. Anyways thanks for the share, but yeah its real.

The Falcon was part of our culture in my childhood.My dad, Uncle and two neighbors all bought the 1960 models on of the neighbors was a station wagon all the rest were coupes all were two doors. Years later that same uncle bought a station wagon for a second car. In high school I had a 63 convertible. My next car was a 68 two door coupe. Also not mentioned Ford made minivan with the Falcon nameplate and a pick up version of that model. It looked like a small economize van and pick up.

To Bad, was looking forward to this model. I’ve been a ford guy for 50 years. Have had mustangs, Fairlane’s, galaxy’s, ford pickups, Full size bronco’s and Bronco two’s, etc. I won’t buy this for the same reason I didn’t buy a Ranger. I don’t like, nor will I buy these little engines when I need something that will tow and haul. Yes I know you can squeeze a little engine and make it do things, but they never equal an actual decent V8 when it comes to working them. Good Luck with these Fords.

I had a 1972 Comet GT (Mercury version) back in HS thru my Navy time (77-83) Great car, basically a mini-Mustang…same suspension, same basic chassis…just a bit shorter and lighter. I had 302 2bbl w/auto and ran against a friend’s 67 Camaro with 327 4bbl w/4spd….He thought he would take me easy and almost lost. I actually set mine up for corner-carving with the Shelby mod up front and big stabilizer bars front and rear…My School-mates couldn’t believe I could cut thru corners so fast. Miss that little car.

Isn’t this a bit dated?
I mean 240s are so “classic” now that every one you find is a drift missile asking too much.

I think we’re reaching the end of the 240 dominance as used 350z and BRZ are hitting the market super cheap to use for drifting.
Plus for most Street Legal leagues both the FRs/BRZ and the 350z can run it without caging thanks to new safety designs.

O M G I want one .My first was a comet in high school. It only had a 200. I rebuilt it and it was indestructible. Even with no oil or water, for hours it would not quit. I moved on, been through 4 Mavericks. One I put a 1967 289 in a 2 barrel motor I added a 4 barrel intake. I beat the hell out of it for 5 years and sold it to my uncle. He had it for 4 years until he crashed it.289 another very indestructible Ford engine . With the 6 cylinder gears and a 4 speed trans I bet it would go close to 150 MPH.I drag raced a friend ,he said when I put it in 4th gear his Pontiac Ventura was done at about 125. It had a 305 with 3 2 barrels. I left him like he put on the brakes. we were street racing so no times or speed. I now have a 2000 Hayabusa, I like to go very fast.

California last issued annual license plates in 1956 before going to renewal stickers in '57, and for some reason continued to issue ones with "56" stamped in the corner to new registrations right up until they went to the yellow-on-black series in 1962. It's especially strange since the box around it looks as though it was made to be particularly easy to switch out on the dies.

They made a REBEL MACHINE as well, I had a 69 HURST SC/RAMBLER, that was set up with a 3:90 positrac, greatn1/4 miler, mine was the series 1 paint scheme. I have always wanted a full set of the AMC pony cars, AMX, Javelin, another S/C, and the Rebel Machine.
The weren’t fancy, but functional, affordable.

Nicely done article but Thacker slipped up just once in explaining the propulsion system employed by TEAMVesco’s Turbinator streamliner. To be clear, at no time has the car ever been fitted with a jet engine. It is a common mistake made by many. The car does not have, never did, or ever will use an afterburner – the key component the differentiates turbines from jets. Essentially, all jet engines are turbines, but only those axial flow turbines with afterburners can rightfully be deemed a “jet.” Think helicopter versus fighter jet and you get the picture. A whirlybird gets it spinning blade power from the axial flow shafts and the jet relies on the mighty afterburner, or reheat system, to scorch its way through the sky.

Turbinator began its World Wheel-Driven hunt for 500MPH with a pair of small-block Chevys that were quickly swapped out for two turbocharged Offenhauser fours under the stressed aluminum skin bodywork. When those couldn’t deliver, the car was fitted with a AVCO Lycoming T55 helicopter engine relying on a bespoke 2:1 gear reduction case. Today, Turbinator II still relies on turbines to drive all four wheels and if the Bonneville Salt Flats dry out with enough crusty miles in 2019, you can bet the team will chase down a plus 500MPH world record

I believe it is a 68 maybe 69 but is shading on a piece of property that a gentleman has got a quite a few cars that are up for sale and they are in the seventies sixties and fifties summer little older out in the California area who started would like 1200 cars and I do not know how many more he has left but I know there is still a quite a few that are around I’m at 805-240-6522 Uncle Bill
